Description
Is there a forgotten way to make a white wood bow that can rival and even surpass the performance of modern longbows and recurves? Join Keith Shannon, Billy Berger and Thad Beckum as they explore a rediscovered bow making technique that will rewrite what we thought we knew about white wood bows.
In this DVD you will learn how to make a white wood longbow from start to finish, and how fire hardening that bow can unlock the hidden performance potential of “second-rate” white woods. Fire hardening will transform white wood bows of variable and lackluster performance into first class target and hunting weapons with no moisture absorption problems.
The performance of various bows is tested with a chronograph, showing fire hardened white wood bows outperforming Osage orange and even fiberglass. And finally, their effectiveness as hunting weapons is proven with a dramatic and successful deer hunt.
This professionally produced video will forever change how modern bowyer’s view common white wood bows.

I just finished my first fire hardened bow and wow I was amazed. Keith is 100% accurate in how white woods can be transformed into amazingly fast arrow launchers. Well worth the money! I’ll be saving all kinds of money from now on by harvesting my own staves and not having to buy osage because it doesnt grow in my area.

Since buying this well made professional quality movie I have fire hardened multiple species of white woods with amazing results. Every bowyer should have this knowledge. I’ve not only made my best shooting bows to date with this method, I was also able to revive a couple of older bows with excessive string follow into snappy shooting, low string follow bows. I’ll never spend 200 dollars a stave on Osage again. And I’ll never make another white wood bow without fire hardening. I’ll never have to worry about the high humidity in my area again.

I have been a bowyer for 8 years now and have a lot of bows under my belt. Mostly of osage and some sinew backed. I have made several white wood bows but they were always slower and less powerful than my osage self bows in comparison. I recently fire hardened 2 hickory blanks from a tree I harvested and these 2 self bows are the finest bows I have made up until now. I don’t own a chronograph but I’m confident one of these hickory bows is faster than my sinew backed osage bows with the same poundage. Truly impressive and groundbreaking. I will be making my bows this way from now on! Thank you guys for your work on this.
